Work Out Your Triggers of Anxiety

When you have anxiety, sometimes it can occur out of the blue, with no real apparent trigger. Often though, there is something that we can identify as the trigger to the feelings of anxiety.

Some of the triggers could be one, or a number of the following things.

  • An experience, often a traumatic experience
  • A particular place
  • A certain smell
  • A situation
  • Inherited
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Inflammation
  • Vitamin or mineral deficiencies or imbalance
  • Adrenal insufficiency
  • Some other medical cause
  • Thyroid issue such as an overactive thyroid or an underachieve thyroid
  • Certain foods
  • Particular drinks
  • A certain song
  • A particular sound

For me, a few of my main triggers for anxiety were jetties and bridges, being in the middle of nowhere and being in shopping centres.

Ask yourself some questions around what your triggers are for anxiety.

What increases your anxiety levels?

It could be when you are in crowds. It could be when you are home alone. It could be when you hop into bed at night. It could be when you slow down and start to relax and unwind, when you are not really busy.

One of the keys to improving anxiety is to work out what your particular triggers are. Write them down. Start to unpack them, and realise what yours are. Once you are aware, you can start to work on releasing them and addressing these.
