Why Detox?

We are designed to detox on our own, but sometimes we need some help if we have overindulged or if we have been exposed to excess toxins.

Our main detox organs include

Skin ~ We detox through our skin by sweating. We can help support this process through exercise, saunas and Epsom salt baths to release toxins

Lungs ~ We detox through our lungs when we release carbon dioxide through exhaling

Kidneys ~ Our kidneys detox by filtering our blood and release toxins through our urine

Liver ~ Our liver also filters our blood and converts toxins into waste products that are eliminated through the gastro intestinal tract and our bowel movements

Bowels ~ Our bowels assist with detox by excreting toxins through the movement of our bowels

In normal, everyday life we are exposed to many toxins both internally and externally. These can be from the foods we eat, the products we put on our skin, the cookware we use, the air we breathe and more. Over time, these toxins put extra pressure on our body systems.

When this occurs we might notice symptoms such as fatigue, an increase in weight, a decrease in energy, skin issues, digestive troubles, reduced immune function, aches, pains, food sensitivities, inflammation and even autoimmune conditions.

A cleanse or detox program such as Kickstart or Nourishing From Within, can be found here help our body to be able to detox more effectively. Adjusting the foods we eat, reducing stress, movement and getting enough sleep are all fundamental to helping our body.

Sometimes when you do a cleanse or detox program, you might notice that you feel a bit under the weather with aches, pains and headaches. If this happens, give yourself some extra care. Increase your water intake, increase your rest and sleep and generally be kind to yourself. Extra support can be found from Epsom salt baths, dry skin brushing, massage, Bowen Therapy and gentle exercise. You can practice yoga, prayer, meditation, journal both negative and positive things, gratitude, using essential oils, walking outside in nature, herbal tea, spending time with a dear friend, doing things that make you feel happy and laugh, listening to your favourite music, reading, slow deep breathing and anything that you enjoy.

I would recommend that you do a detox program like the ones I mentioned each change of season or when you notice feelings that I mentioned earlier that you might notice when your body needs some extra support with a detox or cleanse.
